Veteran actor Ashok Saraf, renowned for his exceptional comic timing and appearances in over 250 Marathi films, was honored on Thursday night with the Maharashtra Bhushan Award for 2023, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the state.

Throughout his illustrious career spanning nearly five decades, Saraf has graced numerous Hindi films and gained recognition for his roles in popular comedy-drama television series such as “Hum Paanch.”

The prestigious award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, a medal, and a citation, was presented to the esteemed actor at the 57th Maharashtra State Marathi Film Awards ceremony by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

During the ceremony, Shinde lauded Saraf’s contributions, remarking, “At 75, he still exudes youthful energy and a thirst for innovation. He is truly a gem of Marathi cinema.”

“It is a matter of great honor and pride for the state government to confer this award upon Saraf,” the CM added.

Addressing the audience, Shinde emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing modern facilities for film production in the state, with Mumbai, the state capital, serving as the nation’s entertainment epicenter.
