The renowned Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli died this Friday in Florence at the age of 83, according to ‘Il Corriere della sera’.

Cavalli, a prominent figure in the fashion world, had been battling an illness for several years, Italian media reported. Next to him was his current partner, the Swedish model Sandra Nilsson. The designer leaves behind six children from three different marriages, the last one born in 2023.

Born in Florence in 1940 into an aristocratic family, Roberto Cavalli, nicknamed “the leopard king”, ventured into the field of painting and prints. In the 1970s, he began printing leather and silk with innovative techniques that captured the attention of some of the top French brands, including Hermès.

In 2015, Roberto Cavalli finally ceded control of his brand to the Clessidra investment fund.
